METALCONLive! and Metal Architecture will kick off its unique series of webinars THIS Wednesday, January 13 at 1:00 pm EST with “Civitas and the Role of Metal in Meeting a Zero Carbon World.” So what is a zero carbon world and why is it important? Zero carbon means that no carbon emissions are being produced from a product/service e.g. zero-carbon electricity could be provided by a 100% renewable energy supplier. Put simply, “net zero” means we are not adding new emissions to the atmosphere. Emissions will continue, but will be balanced by absorbing an equivalent amount from the atmosphere.

Steel and timber come together for what will be the world’s tallest hybrid tower

According to a recent article in Building Design + Construction, the new headquarters building for Atlassian, an Australian software company, is set to rise 40 stories in Sydney and scheduled to be completed by 2025. The mass timber building will feature a steel skeleton that supports the timber “mega floors” and a glass facade that will generate electricity via built in PVs and self-shade the interior offices. The headquarters will feature a mix of indoor and outdoor spaces with elevated parks located throughout. Imagine being able to get some “outdoor” time during your workday by simply going up or down some floors in your building without having to walk to a nearby green space!
