Where High-performance Coatings Meet Aesthetics
Sponsored by PPG

The metal construction and design industry is rapidly evolving, and so are the coatings used to protect and enhance exterior metal building components.
Gone are the days when architectural metal coatings were specified solely for their ability to safeguard exteriors from the elements, UV light, abrasions, chemicals and corrosion.
Today, architects, designers and builders have more opportunities than ever before to specify metal coatings systems that hit a broad range of requirements to fit both their needs and those of the end users: lasting durability, color retention, special effect finishes, sustainably advantages, cost-performance and energy savings.
Since the introduction of PPG DURANAR® coatings in 1967, PPG has been a leader in architectural metal coatings and we have continued to pioneer new innovations in the 53 years since. With METALCON just a few weeks away, we want to invite attendees to visit our team at booth 1037 for an up-close look at the latest colors and special effect finishes and benefits of PPG’s line of high-performance coil coatings for industrial, residential and commercial metal building products.
But before we head to Tampa, we wanted to preview the PPG products that will be showcased in our booth, including PPG Duranar, PPG DURASTAR®, PPG DURAFORM™ andPPG CORAFLON® ADS.
A Half-Century of Coatings Reliability
Duranar fluoropolymer coil coatings have set the standard of protection and beauty for architectural metal for over 50 years. In fact, the origins of Duranar trace back two decades before the first METALCON show 30 years ago!
Visitors to our booth at METALCON can learn why Duranar is still one of the most widely-used architectural metal coatings and why it’s trusted to protect some of the most world’s most cherished landmarks like the Empire State Building, One World Trade Center and the Louvre Pyramid.
Still the gold standard in architectural metal coatings, Duranar delivers proven aesthetics and durability for high-end architectural applications, including metal roof and wall panels and meets or exceeds FGIA/AAMA 2605 performance requirements, the most rigorous in the industry.
Duranar was recently specified on 15 Hudson Yards in New York City, the first residential tower to open as part of the largest private real estate development in U.S. history. Standing at more than 70 stories tall, 15 Hudson Yards is helping to redefine the city skyline and Duranar was instrumental in creating the building’s stunning façade.
A Star in the Coatings Industry
Durastar will also be on display in our booth. Based on an ultra-durable polyester formulation proven under more than a decade of South Florida exposure testing, Durastar coil coatings enable high-performance building products to upgrade from AAMA 2603 to 2604-level weathering performance without a premium cost investment.
Durastar coatings deliver a smooth, finished appearance and a broad range of glosses and solid colors, all while providing exceptional hardness and scratch- and mar-resistance.
Comprehensive Coatings Solutions
The Duraform family of coatings has the versatility to support a wide range of decorative and functional applications from building products and home appliances to HVAC systems and doors.
For example, Duraform BP coatings are well-equipped to coat building products, as their design is conducive to rainware protection, high-traffic areas and coil trim. Duraform CP coatings cover multiple consumer products such as electrical busways, electrical boxes, bedframes and more with solid all-around properties and roll-forming metal from coil stock.
In summary, Duraform coatings deliver excellent mechanical properties, hardness, stain resistance and affordability to go along with aesthetic appeal. These coatings are engineered with durable pigments for long lasting color.
Restoration, New Construction and Touch Up/Repair
The fourth product set to be featured at METALCON is Coraflon ADS, a field-applied, two-component air-dry fluoropolymer coating for building and roof restorations, structural steel projects and for building touch-up or restoration projects that helps to preserve structures long into the future.
Coraflon ADS delivers unsurpassed color retention and chalk resistance with low volatile organic compound (VOC) content and can be applied on building panels, architectural accents, curtainwalls, roofs, aluminum windows, structural steel and other structurally sound surfaces.
Disruptive Surfaces
In addition to these products, visitors to the PPG booth can also explore one of the hottest trends in the building industry—the move toward novel and groundbreaking aesthetics.
Thanks to new innovations, coatings can provide design options than were not possible just a few years ago.
Specifically, disruptive surfaces for coil coatings allow for differentiation in color and design as the surface textures provide a unique look and feel. From traditional smooth textures and multiple levels of wrinkle to texture matte, these effects not only provide visual appeal, but often added durability benefits like increased resistance to abrasions and damage during forming. These performance and aesthetic advantages are driving more architects and designers to incorporate these new finishes into their designs.
One of the most appealing benefits of these new finishes is their ability to mimic other materials.
Sarah Mueller, PPG coil technical manager, will discuss this topic and more in her presentation at METALCON on Oct. 7 from 1:30-2:30 p.m. The session, Coil Coatings and Disruptive Surfaces, will discuss both the aesthetic benefits of these coatings and the added protection and abrasion-resistance they provide to substrates and structures. We encourage everyone to check out her presentation!
We look forward to seeing you at the Insulated Metal Panel Pavilion in October. Can’t make it to the show? Visit www.ppgmetalcoatings.com for more information or contact us at 1-800-258-6398.
