And despite having to postpone our in-person event, your support and participation for our new virtual programming has been nothing short of amazing! Since the launch of METALCONLive! in April, we have held 12 virtual events and have interacted with over 2,500 participants.
Looking back over the year, we shared hundreds of blog posts (143 to be exact!) in an attempt to keep you up-to-date with relevant industry information. Here’s a round-up of the top 10 “most-viewed” of 2020:
As industry events continue to change, cancel or postpone, our friends with Metal Construction News are keeping everyone up-to-date. You can find a running list of events on their WEBSITE. While some have postponed to next year (METALCON included) or canceled, many events are now offering a VIRTUAL platform. While they don’t replace face-to-face, these virtual meetings can still provide an excellent way to connect with industry leaders and peers and continue to learn how to better position your business. Here is the list for the upcoming events happening this fall, between now and the end of November.
In celebration of National Roofing Week, we are proud to bring you an amazing story about a collaborative effort being done in Pennsylvania to promote diversity in work force development. ATAS International, one of METALCON’s long-standing exhibitors, was once again involved in their local “Let’s Build Construction Camp for Girls” last month. This year, the “advanced camp” group designed and constructed a shed from the ground up, as part of a Habitat for Humanity fundraiser, including the installation of an ATAS metal roof. Now in its fourth year, this annual event serves as a way for the design and construction community in the Lehigh Valley Pennsylvania area to promote work force development for the industry as a whole. Continue reading for the ATAS’ press release on the initiative.
CHICAGO – July 28, 2020 – The Metal Construction Association (MCA) is proud to report that its Virtual Summer Meeting, held June 15-18, enjoyed record high attendance, and promoted a positive outlook for the future of the metal construction industry.

If you missed the announcement made over the weekend, METALCON 2020 has been postponed until the following year (see OFFICIAL RELEASE). Mark your calendar for the 30th Anniversary event scheduled for October 6-8, 2021 in Tampa, Florida. Knowing how important METALCON is to your business, the METALCON team is quickly pivoting to provide you with new virtual programming and essential training to help you take your business to the next level. As the producers of the only global event dedicated to the use of metal in design and construction, we are using our knowledge and resources to launch three new initiatives in the areas of safety, business development and industry briefs.
Three New Initiatives Launching in the Coming Weeks
Due to the ongoing concerns of the COVID-19 pandemic and mandates established by the state of Nevada, METALCON 2020 cannot take place as planned for this October and is postponing its 2020 show until October 6-8, 2021 in Tampa, Florida. Mark your calendar!
It has been approximately five months since most states began their “lock-down” measures forcing members in our construction industry to react and quickly adjust to doing business differently. While the industry has shown great strength and resilience, designers, contractors, builders, manufacturers, etc, were forced to pivot and make necessary changes. So where are we today? How is the construction industry faring? Here is a round-up of some of the latest news and resources from several of METALCON’s partner associations and publications:
The Metal Building Contractors & Erectors Association has had a busy few months. Due to the COVID pandemic, they shifted gears and changed their 51st Annual Conference from a three-day live event into a 30-day online event last month. Additionally, MBCEA formally recognized their 2020 Building of the Year winners during this “virtual event,” which is typically done in person at the annual conference.
As with most things this year, America’s birthday will inevitably look a little bit different this year. In place of barbecues, fireworks shows, and large gatherings, your METALCON team has the answer — It’s a great weekend to catch up on your reading or listening to a podcast! Here are links to our resources:
It’s all systems go for METALCON 2020, the largest annual gathering of the metal construction industry! Kick-start your business growth to help “build back better” and ensure a stronger 2021 at our 30th Anniversary event scheduled for October 21-23 in Las Vegas.

TOP AIA COTE® AWARD HIGHLIGHTS IMPORTANCE OF TEACHING SUSTAINABILITY AT A YOUNG AGE
Each year, the AIA’s Committee on the Environment (COTE®) recognizes 10 projects that integrate design excellence and environmental performance. One winner receives the COTE Top Ten Plus award—an indication of exemplary proven energy performance and post-occupancy results. This year’s “plus” award was given to the Environmental Nature Center and Preschool in Newport Beach, California, for reasons of “Introducing kids to responsible sustainability at a young age and represents a place where people will want to send their children. It does all the right things—water, biophilia, resilience, and strong material choices.” (ARCHITECT Magazine) Through simple and cost-effective design strategies, the center was certified as the first LEED Platinum building in Orange County, California, and has operated at net zero since it opened, serving the community as an educational tool for sustainability.
