Magnificent Metal Monday – Zero Carbon World

Magnificent Metal Monday – MCN Readers’ Choice Awards 2020

Congratulations to the winners of the 2020 Metal Construction News Readers’ Choice Awards!

EDCO Products Inc. Generations Slate Metal Roof Panels 

This year, readers expressed a significant interest metal panels. Whether roofing panels, wall panels or insulated metal panels, of the 22 products selected, 12 of them were metal panels.

The top selection was the Generations Slate Metal Roof Panels from EDCO Products Inc., Hopkins, Minn. These metal roof panels replicate the look of a slate roof with steel in HD (high definition) colors and PVDF finishes. Colors include Black HD, Charcoal Gray HD, Stat Bronze HD and Stone HD. The 50-inch-long by 12-inch-wide Generations Slate panels are installed with interlocking grooves and concealed fasteners. It shows that our readers still have a strong interest in roofing and in residential roofing products in particular.

How will the COVID-19 Pandemic Influence the Future of Design?

Last week, we had the pleasure of having Alan Scott, FAIA, LEED Fellow, LEED AP BD+C, O+M, WELL AP, CEM, and senior consultant with Intertek Building Science Solutions, appear on METALCONLive! as a panelist. Alan serves as a consultant for architects and designers and is a regular columnist for Metal Architecture Magazine. In a recent article, Post-COVID Crystal Ball: How Might This Pandemic Influence Design, Alan advises, “it is not too soon to consider how the 2020 pandemic might influence how we design our built environment.”

MCN Building and Roofing Awards Extend Deadline to Submit

Metal Construction News has extended their deadline to next Friday, September 25 for all entries in their annual Building and Roofing Awards.

The judges will select a Grand Award winner as well as winners in these categories:

  • Metal Buildings
  • Metal Roofs-New
  • Metal Roofs-Retrofit
  • Metal Walls-New
  • Metal Walls-Retrofit

Any project completed after January 1, 2019 is eligible. The results will be published in the December 2020 issue of Metal Construction News as well as be posted on our website at www.MetalConstructionNews.com.

Construction Safety Week – September 14-18, 2020

Construction Safety Week is a week-long event that happens annually. Originally scheduled for May 4-8, 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was rescheduled for this week, September 14- 18. MCA Publishes Three Updated Environmental Product Declarations

The Metal Construction Association (MCA) has released three updated Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for Metal Composite Materials (MCM), Insulated Metal Panels (IMP), and Roll Formed Aluminum and Steel Cladding. These three documents provide key data on the manufacturing and use of these products and discuss the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and environmental impacts associated from the use of metal cladding in construction.
