Cat 4 Hurricane Ian as it makes landfall in SW Florida
With over a million still without power, Florida residents are dealing with immeasurable loss. From flood-ridden homes to structural damage due to fallen trees, wind and rain, the rebuilding will go on for months and years to come. Resources, workers, equipment and more are needed to help. While still too early to assess what structures stood up to this Cat 4 hurricane, here is a quick compilation of some stories coming in … METALCON’s Give Back organization, World Central Kitchen, has mobilized to help hurricane victims, a success story of a Tesla Solar Roof surviving the storm, a Hurricane Ian Recovery Guide for Contractors courtesy of RoofersCoffeeShop®, and how IMPs stand up to hurricanes.
In honor of World Hunger Day 2022, occurring annually on May 28, we invite you to join METALCON’s 20+ year history of “giving back” to communities in need by helping us “use the power of food to nourish the world.” This year, we have partnered with the World Central Kitchen (WCK), and have already began to send donations given the urgency of the ongoing events happening in the Ukraine.

Next week, METALCON 2021 will make its return as an in-person event in Tampa, Florida, and will bring together some of the biggest and brightest leaders in the metal construction and design industry. In addition to showcasing new products and providing top notch education, METALCON will continue its tradition of supporting the local community where the show takes place. This year we have partnered with FEEDING TAMPA BAY, an organization focused on providing food to over 1 million food insecure families in the 10-county area of West Central Florida. We invite you to help us make a difference. A $20 donation will not only make a difference in people’s lives, but it will also qualify you for our daily raffle on-site at METALCON (*have to be in attendance at the show to win). You can donate electronically, or find us on the show floor at “THE DECK” to make your donation in person!
METALCON Selects Feeding Tampa Bay as Local Charity for this year’s “Give Back”
Hunger is closer than you think. According to Feeding America, “Due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, more than 42 million people may experience food insecurity, including a potential 13 million children.” Hunger affects everyday people, every day. This October, METALCON will continue its annual tradition of supporting the local community where the show takes place as we partner with FEEDING TAMPA BAY, part of the national Feeding America network. Feeding Tampa Bay is focused on providing food to over 1 million food insecure families in the 10-county area of West Central Florida.
As part of National Roofing Week, METALCON salutes the Roofing Alliance, the foundation of the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA), as they continue to celebrate their 25th anniversary. Honoring our veterans has been a core value of the METALCON community since the show’s Give Back program began in 1995. Over the years, the METALCON community has generously donated to organizations dedicated to serving the veterans including Home for our Troops, America’s Fund and most recently, the Veterans Leadership Program of Western Pennsylvania, when METALCON held the show in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 2019.
When we look back over METALCON’s 30-year history, part of the “most memorable METALCON moments,” includes when a steel framed house was constructed on the show floor in years 2006, 2007 and 2008 for the organization Home for our Troops. In 2006, it was built for SSG Paul Russell Marek; in 2007, it was built for 23 year-old Marine Corps Cpl. Evan Morgan, Bakersfield, CA; and in 2008, for U.S. Army Specialist David Battle.

On behalf of the METALCON team, we hope you will take a few moments today to honor all those who have served our country.
The following news was released to the national media yesterday reporting on the recent METALCON event that took place last month in Pittsburgh. This year’s Total Experience included more than 250 leading companies exhibiting the latest metal construction industry products and technology along with education and training sessions―all located on the show floor. METALCON 2019 truly shined in the “Steel City” as it wrapped up its 29th year! With only three hours on the final day, attendees made their final visits with exhibitors and made time for the show’s newest feature, CONTECH.
CONTECH was buzzing with attendees checking out the latest in construction technology. Premier sponsor, United States Steel, gave a presentation at 11:00 am on their “Construction Portfolio,” and Solution Huddle presented on the “Fundamentals of Modernizing your Customer Experience” at 11:30 am.
As the show wrapped up, two additional prizes were raffled off including original artwork by photographer J.P. Diroll (inspiration for this year’s show graphics) and the grand prize drawing for a trip to Las Vegas including 3-night accommodation at the Westgate Resort and Casino, limo airport transfer, show tickets and a $400 food and beverage credit. Congratulations to ALL of the winners throughout the show and thanks to all who gave this year to METALCON’s annual fundraising campaign. With your generous support, we presented a check in the amount of $8000 to the Veterans Leadership Program of Western Pennsylvania.
Mark your calendars for METALCON’s 30th Anniversary in Las Vegas, October 21-23, 2020!
On a more personal note, this show marked the last for vice president of trade shows, Claire Kilcoyne, who announced her retirement after 35 years of dedicated service to the metal construction industry. Her keen leadership and ability to build long-lasting relationships has been key to her many successes. Click HERE for the full press release on Claire’s retirement. On behalf of your METALCON team, we will miss you … but know you won’t be far away!
Thank you Claire for your years of service!
Thank you Pittsburgh for a fantastic show!
