MCN Announces Annual Top Metal Builders

For metal building contractors and erectors, 2021 was a roller coaster ride with steel prices in total flux rising to all time highs and decreasing to all time lows. Paul Deffenbaugh, editorial director of Metal Construction News (MCN), comments, ” Price, availability and demand for construction materials all fluctuated widely in 2021, but despite that, the top metal builders report increases in the average tonnage and square footage. In fact, by all measures, 2021 was a very strong year for the metal building industry when looking at the largest contractors.”

MBMA 2021 Annual Report Now Available

In January, The Metal Building Manufacturers Association (MBMA) released its 2021 MBMA Annual Report, “Forging the Future of Metal Building Systems Through Education.” The report offers valuable information for anyone who works with metal building systems, has an interest in metal buildings or is involved in the low-rise commercial building market. METALCON would like to congratulate Jennifer Heimburger of Heimburger Construction Inc. as the next president of the Metal Building Contractors and Erectors Association (MBCEA). The MBCEA National Board ratified the election of officers and new board members during its annual meeting held October 7, 2021, in Tampa, FL during the METALCON trade show. As announced by DesignandBuildwithMetal.com, The Metal Building Contractors and Erectors Association (MBCEA) announced its 2021 Building of the Year winners at its Virtual Annual Conference, held April 28 – 30. The top award this year goes to the new Firehouse Ministries Shelter, a 28,000-square-foot facility to house homeless men in Birmingham, Alabama. The building was erected by the Dunn Building Company, headquartered in Birmingham, and manufactured by Varco Pruden Buildings of Memphis, TN.

Due to the COVID pandemic, they shifted gears and changed their 51st Annual Conference from a three-day live event into a 30-day online event last month. Additionally, MBCEA formally recognized their 2020 Building of the Year winners during this “virtual event,” which is typically done in person at the annual conference.

I believe some of you may say this is just a boneheaded move, but I look at it from the perspective that maybe their boss told them to get the task done and they were creative.
