Construction Dive is seeking nominations through February 10 to highlight the industry’s leading women in all sectors. Each year, Construction Dive spotlights dozens of the industry’s top women leaders in their Construction Champions program. With this year’s Women in Construction Week coming up March 5 to 11, they are looking for a new set of pros to highlight. By recognizing those who are paving the way, it is an important step in the ongoing efforts to open doors for women in the construction industry.

In an article for Commercial Construction & Renovation, RoofersCoffeeShop® (RCS) President and METALCON Advisory Board Member, Speaker and Exhibitor, Heidi J. Ellsworth, discusses the critical role women have played in the roofing industry for centuries. She says, “By recognizing the strength of women in roofing and women-owned businesses along with the balance of a strong and diverse employee base, the roofing industry is gaining strides quickly in the recruitment of women and minorities. When companies work together for everyone’s success it shows and by embracing and empowering women in roofing, the industry will continue to see success in retaining the highest levels of talent.” As a founder of the National Women in Roofing, Heidi is a stalwart advocate for hiring and promoting more women in the construction industry.
According to the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), “The number of women working in the construction industry edged only slightly higher last year, rising to 11% of the overall construction workforce from 10.9% in 2020, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. But most women in the industry remain involved in office and administrative positions, with less than 4% involved in the skilled trades, where workers are sorely needed.
Make a difference. Please take a moment to identify the women who you know are working to shape the construction industry. Nominate yourself or a colleague to be considered for this year’s coverage of women role models. Categories include Rising Stars, Mentors, Tradeswomen and others.
